Run for Your Wife

May 2005

Taxi driver John Smith appears to be a plain, unassuming husband which is why it comes as a surprise to both his wives when he doesn’t come home as scheduled one evening. Their concerns cause both of them to file a missing persons report with their respective police departments with Mary Smith calling from the London suburb of Wimbledon and Barbara Smith calling from Streatham – reports that end up causing quite a bit of confusion for the two detectives following up on the reports and for the wives themselves as John Smith does his best to keep both sides of his bigamist life from finding out about each other. Toss in John's bumbling but well meaning friend Stanley and a "flamboyant" male dress designer and you have a recipe for disaster.

Tom Dunnington (Detective Sergeant Porterhouse) has been involved with GP since 1973 and has appeared in over 50 productions. He has also designed and built sets for GP shows for the past 30 years. His two favorite roles are Sancho in Man of La Mancha and Ben Franklin in 1776. Tom served as GP President 3 times and has been on the Board of Directors for as long as he can remember. Of course, at 63, his memory isn't what it used to be. Tom and a group of dedicated GP’ers have been working for 18 years to find a home they can call their own. He is pleased to say that dreams do come true.

John Safina (Stanley Gardner) is beginning to feel like a veteran GP member, this being his third show this season. John portrayed Major General Stanley in The Pirates of Penzance and was James Wilson in 1776. Originally from MA, John acted and directed many theater productions in his home state. He received his M.A. from Emerson College, where he studied performing arts and theater education. John has lived in York, ME for the past 12 years and has been involved with many local theaters, including Seacoast Rep, Sanford ME Stage, and Biddeford City Theater. He looks forward to directing one of next season's GPs productions. During the day John is an Assistant Principal at Rochester Middle School.
