March 27-29, April 3-5, 2009“Bottoms Up”, by Gregg Kreutz, is a classic mistaken identity farce that takes place on the grounds of a down-scale resort hotel on a third-world, banana republic tropical island in the Caribbean. It involves a gangster trying to launder a suitcase full of cash, his bumbling assistant, a down-on-her-luck aerobics instructor with an identical suitcase (and the two get switched, obviously), a sad-sack businessman, a pretentious Hollywood director of "B" movies, a buxom starlet who is sick of doing nude scenes and is refusing (and of course, she and the aerobics instructor get mixed up), a garish female hotel owner, and a larcenous porter. The aerobics instructor is hoping for a new start on the island. The director needs a new starlet. Mistaken identities ensue, along with mixed up suitcases.
The Director.... | |||||||||||||||||||||
Jim Mastro (Director) has been involved in the performing arts since in 1974, starting with a part in a community theater production of The Front Page. He went on to do stand-up comedy and improvisational comedy (with Whoopi Goldberg, before she was discovered) at the Comedy Store in San Diego. He also worked for many years as a professional dancer. Then, for some strange reason, he went to Antarctica. While working there, he formed the McMurdo Players theatrical troupe, established a playhouse, and produced and directed his first play, the one-act comedy The Mice Have Been Drinking Again. The following year he produced, directed, and acted in the three-act comedy Saving Grace, playing the part of Walter Chepple. Next came the one-act comedy Me Too, Then! All three productions played to sold-out houses. Last season, Jim directed the Garrison Players production of Academia Nuts, a hilarious comedy/farce by Gregg Kreutz. He enjoyed the experience so much he decided he had to direct Kreutz's other play. Hence, Bottoms Up! Jim is honored to be involved with the famous Garrison Players, and especially honored to be working with such a professional and talented cast and crew!

Bob Boucher (Smith) has been involved in all aspects of the theatre since 1984 (yes, 25 years and he still has nothing better to do) and his favorite moments include meeting his wife in Lucky Dollar - the Musical, directing Dracula, playing Judge Turpin in Sweeney Todd and being the voice of Audrey II in Little Shop of Horrors. He is thankful to Jim and the rest of the cast and crew for putting up with him...and his wife is even more thankful to them for getting him out of the house. Bob is dedicating this performance to his dad, who was schlepped to more shows than he cared to see or remember...and his favorite fans Katie, Molly & Robert Jr. (They're HIS favorites, he's not necessarily theirs.) Bob will be in GP's next production - Love, Sex and the IRS. in May, so consider this his personal invitation!
